Why most options fall short

Aging parents living alone — and you live in another city

You worry about falls, forgotten medication, or just whether they ate today. Calls don't always go through. WeChat video requires them to pick up.

Hardware elderly monitors are intrusive and expensive

Dedicated fall-detection cameras and medical alert systems cost $200–$500 plus monthly fees. They also feel hospital-like to your parents.

Cloud cameras feel surveillance-y, and they leak

Pointing a vendor-controlled camera at your parents' living room means strangers might see them in pajamas. Multiple major brands have had hacking incidents.

Why Call Pet works for elderly monitor app

01

Two-way audio — talk to mom and dad without making them pick up a call

Just open Call Pet and speak. They hear you through the spare phone speaker without having to do anything.

02

End-to-end encrypted, only you can see your parents' home

WebRTC peer-to-peer with X25519 + AES-GCM. Video never reaches a server. Even Call Pet's developers cannot decrypt it.

03

Zero setup for your parents — they don't need to learn anything

You set up the spare phone once when you visit. After that, they just leave it plugged in. No buttons to press, no app to learn.

04

Free basic monitoring, optional Pro membership

Free download with basic monitoring. Premium features are optional through Pro membership, or can be earned through in-app tasks.

05

Auto-reconnect — works even if their network is unstable

Many older homes have unstable networks. Call Pet reconnects on its own without anyone touching the phone.

Frequently asked

Does Call Pet detect falls automatically? +

No. Call Pet provides live video and two-way audio, not AI fall detection. For automated fall alerts, pair Call Pet with a wearable medical alert device.

Will my parents feel watched all the time? +

Be transparent with them about why and when you'll check in. Many families settle into a 'check at meal times' rhythm rather than constant viewing. Position the camera so it covers safety hot spots, not the whole house.

Can I let my siblings see the same camera? +

Currently each pairing is one viewer to one camera. For shared viewing across siblings, the simplest workaround is everyone uses the same Controller pairing one at a time.

What happens if the spare phone gets unplugged? +

It runs on its battery for a few hours, then turns off. The viewer side will see the connection drop. Talk with parents about leaving it plugged in.

Can I use this if my parents don't have smartphones at all? +

Yes — the spare phone in their home runs everything automatically once you set it up. They never need to touch it.
