Many rentals restrict drilling
Hardware security cameras need wall mounting. That's a deposit-loss waiting to happen.
Some Wi-Fi cameras add hardware and cloud-service costs
Costs and contracts vary by product and plan. A spare-phone setup is portable when you move.
You don't trust the cloud with footage from inside your home
Renters may share spaces or sublet rooms. Cloud storage and retention vary by vendor, and any camera in a shared area requires everyone's consent.
Why Call Pet works for rental home security camera
01
Zero installation — set on a shelf
No drilling, no mounting, no wiring. Just put the spare phone on a bookshelf, dresser, or windowsill.
02
Take it with you when you move
Pack the spare phone in 10 seconds. Reset it up at the new place in 30. No reinstallation cost.
03
Direct, encrypted media between paired devices
Media connects directly over WebRTC P2P with no TURN or media relay. WebRTC DTLS/SRTP protects audio and video; X25519 + AES-256-GCM protects control and signaling. Call Pet servers do not receive the media.
04
No Call Pet account, email, or phone number
Pairing does not require account registration, an email address, or a phone number. Internet infrastructure may still process limited network metadata needed to establish a connection, as described in the privacy policy.

Frequently asked
Will Call Pet work with shared apartment WiFi? +
It can work if the shared network permits a direct WebRTC P2P connection. DTLS/SRTP protects the media, but encryption does not replace the requirement to obtain consent from anyone who may be filmed.
If a roommate finds the spare phone, can they see what I've been recording? +
Call Pet does not store recordings on the Monitor or in the cloud. Pro users may manually record on the Controller, and that file stays on the Controller. The Monitor must remain in Call Pet's foreground standby page; it may be dark or low-brightness, but not locked or hidden from people who may be filmed.
Can I monitor from another country if I'm traveling? +
It can work across regions when both networks permit a direct WebRTC P2P connection. Because Call Pet has no TURN/media relay, restrictive hotel, carrier, NAT, or firewall networks may prevent connection.
What if my spare phone gets stolen? +
Call Pet does not store recordings on the Monitor. Any Pro recording you previously made stays on the Controller. Monitoring stops when the Monitor is taken or powered off, so use normal device security and report theft through the appropriate channel.
Is this legal as a security camera in a rental? +
Laws, lease terms, and consent rules vary. Do not use Call Pet for covert monitoring. Obtain explicit consent before filming any shared space, never aim at another person's private area, and check the rules that apply to your rental.
