Why most options fall short

You leave for a week and worry about pets, packages, or leaks

Did the cat sitter come? Did the package get stolen from the porch? Is the kitchen leaking? Without a camera, you find out only when you get home.

Cloud cameras + travel = your home video on someone else's server while you're away

Cloud-connected camera architectures, access controls, and retention terms vary by vendor. Review the current privacy and storage policy before placing one inside an empty home.

Hardware cameras with subscriptions feel wasteful for occasional travel

A dedicated camera and optional cloud plan may be unnecessary if you only need occasional live check-ins and already have a compatible spare phone.

Why Call Pet works for home camera while traveling

01

Set up before the trip, take it down when you're home

No commitment. Use it when you travel; ignore it when you're home. The spare phone goes back in the drawer.

02

End-to-end encrypted — no server has your empty home on file

Media connects directly over WebRTC P2P with no TURN or media relay. WebRTC DTLS/SRTP protects audio and video; X25519 + AES-256-GCM protects control and signaling. Call Pet servers do not receive or store the media.

03

Can work across countries when networks allow direct P2P

Hotel Wi-Fi, roaming, home Wi-Fi, or cellular may work if both sides permit a direct WebRTC P2P connection. Because there is no TURN/media relay, restrictive networks may block it.

04

Two-way audio — talk through if you see something

Spot a delivery person? Talk to them. See the cat sitter? Greet them. Hear an unusual noise? Voice-warn.

05

Free basic monitoring, no Call Pet account

The Monitor displays a QR code and the Controller scans it. There is no Call Pet signup form; basic monitoring is free and Pro features are optional.

About 30 seconds. No account needed at any step.

  1. 1

The Monitor displays a QR code.

  3. 3

Open Call Pet on your travel device, choose Controller

Use the Controller to scan the QR code shown by the Monitor.

  4. 4

Position the spare phone covering the area you care most about

Common choices include your front door, kitchen, pet area, or living room. Respect the privacy of anyone who may enter, plug in the Monitor, and keep Call Pet in the foreground standby page.

  5. 5

Check from your trip whenever you want

Frequently asked

Will it work with international roaming or foreign WiFi? +

It can work when both networks permit a direct WebRTC P2P connection. Because Call Pet has no TURN/media relay, some hotel, carrier, NAT, or firewall networks may prevent connection even when both devices have internet.

How much data does it use while I'm watching? +

Usage varies with resolution, frame rate, viewing time, and network conditions. Check each device's system data-usage screen for actual consumption; a Monitor using cellular data consumes data on that side as well.

What if my home network goes down during the trip? +

Call Pet can reconnect after the network returns while the Monitor remains in the foreground standby page and a direct P2P path is available. Cellular fallback depends on the device, SIM, operating-system settings, and carrier network.

Can the spare phone last the whole trip on battery if there's a power cut? +

Battery runtime depends on the device and battery condition. A power loss may stop monitoring, and after the phone powers off or restarts someone must reopen Call Pet on the Monitor; power returning alone does not guarantee monitoring resumes.

Can I see who delivered or left packages at my door while I was out? +

Call Pet does not record automatically or provide cloud playback. Pro users can manually record on the Controller while viewing, and that file stays only on the Controller. For continuous after-the-fact review, use a system designed for continuous recording.
